Just be careful who you expose yourself too.

Hi Melissa and welcome to letterboxing. Use both, they're not competing websites and the owners of each are good friends. Hope that helps, Jay in CT
Hi,
My family is new to letterboxing. Could someone please explain the difference between letterboxing.org and atlasquest.com to me?
It seems there is some overlap between the two sites, but not total overlap. I'm feeling confused as to which site I should be using.
Thanks!
Melissa

We started out using just letterboxing.org until we got comfortable with the process, searches, recording finds, etc. Then we "added" AQ. First we learned how to search on AQ then logged our finds for the boxes that were listed on both sites. Now we use both always - there are boxes listed on AQ that are not on LbNA and vice cersa. The one thing that really confused us for a while was the word "Traveller" as they sort of mean different things on the 2 sites. On LbNA they refer to Hitch Hikers (HH) where as on AQ they refer to Personal Traveller boxes. Here is a link to a really nice explanation of box types that some wonderful boxer provided on the AQ message boards:On Tue, Sep 1, 2015 at 10:42 AM, Melissa Nootz mnootz@gmail.com [letterbox-usa] <letterbox-usa@yahoogroups.com> wrote:Hi,

On LbNA, Traveler include Hitchhiker, Personal Traveler, Postal Letterbox, Virtual Letterbox or Other. That said, LbNA has minimal support for travelers.ChoiOn Tue, Sep 1, 2015 at 12:15 PM, Toni-Lynn Miles sherlock.miles@gmail.com [letterbox-usa] <letterbox-usa@yahoogroups.com> wrote:We started out using just letterboxing.org until we got comfortable with the process, searches, recording finds, etc. Then we "added" AQ. So, when planting a letterbox, is it best to submit the box to both sites? Or how would that work?On Tue, Sep 1, 2015 at 2:22 PM, Melissa Nootz <mnootz@gmail.com> wrote:This is great & helpful info! Thanks everyone!

Unfortunately, when AQ was created it used its own database for storing clues, thus resulting in two different repositories. The same thing happens when people host clues on their own websites. You can choose to only post your clues on one of them or all of them, or you can post to one place and link it to another place (e.g. in LBNA you can point to your own website using an embedded URL). The advantage of posting to more than one place is more exposure. The disadvantage is that it requires more maintenance to keep the clues up to date and in sync. This is not a big deal when you have just a few boxes, but becomes quite problematic when you have placed hundreds. The biggest difference between looking up clues on AQ and LBNA is that AQ is more search oriented while LBNA is more map oriented, but LBNA has improved its search engine significantly recently. You might want to start out listing your clues on the site you prefer using, then decide to post to the other site later. I suggest looking at both sites and decide which one "feels" right for you.
